Steve Slater presented at M&S 'Plan A' 2012 Conference breakout session
Oakdene Hollins’ Steve Slater was invited to give a short presentation at a breakout session at the Marks & Spencer ‘Plan A’ Conference 2012.
The conference, held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster, London, on 26th April, was attended by an estimated 1,200 staff, suppliers and contractors. It was aimed at summarising the many achievements of the M&S ‘Plan A’ initiative since its launch in January 2007, and at engaging all stakeholders in the company’s vision and new commitments for environmental and social sustainability in the future.
In the breakout session - entitled ‘It’s not waste, it’s resource management’ - Steve presented a summary of how the company had moved to consolidating and sorting the waste generated in over 500 locations in the UK and the Republic of Ireland so that all of it now goes to a recycling or recovery process rather than to landfill. He described how the waste operations are closely managed, reported and audited, and how this situation will be used as a platform for improvements in resource management within M&S, including waste prevention and closed loop recycling.
