Our main areas of interest and expertise in the textile and clothing industry are:
- Reducing environmental and social impacts across the entire lifecycle of textiles (apparel and non-apparel items)
- End-of-life management of textile and clothing waste and the market opportunities for use in new products
- Strategies for encouraging and promoting sustainable consumption and production, particularly clothing.
We work in partnership with academic institutions, charitable organisations, designers, retailers and Government departments to provide research and consultancy solutions to textiles related projects.
Recent work:
A Defra funded study, entitled ‘Recycling of low grade clothing waste’ which integrated an economic and market analysis of the UK textile recycling industry with a technical study aimed at developing new markets for recycled grades of clothing. Possible economic instruments and policy interventions were also proposed, which could further develop the secondary textile markets.
A summary document, entitled 'Clothing Take-Back for Recycling and Reuse: A Japanese Insight', which provides a snapshot of three Japanese clothing take-back schemes which enable recycling and reuse of end-of-life clothing. |
