Environmental problems do not stop at the border – and nor do business and research. An international approach is vital in today’s world, especially when developing leading-edge sustainable technologies. Promoting such an approach is the core aim of the ERA-NET Sustainable Enterprise (SUSPRISE) project.
Many member states in the EU run their own regional or national programmes in sustainability RTD. Overcoming this fragmentation of effort requires greater networking, co ordination and co operation between RTD programmes. This is where the ERA-NET Sustainable Enterprise programme (SUSPRISE) comes in.
The SUSPRISE network was set up in 2004. Partner countries include the UK, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Holland and Belgium. Many of the programmes are themed under sustainable technologies, but may include best practice or demonstration projects, financing, networking and non technical aspects as well as research and development. SUSPRISE will be helping to co ordinate these programmes and to investigate the scope for further collaboration and dissemination of best practice.
