
Dr Julian Parfitt spoke at FAO / SIWI conference on 29th August 2012
"Addressing Post-harvest Losses, Food Waste and Sustainable Diets: Saving Water While Responding to Future Food Demands" was the title of a conference convened in Stockholm by the Food and Agriculture Organisation and the Stockholm International Water Institute on Wednesday 29 August 2012.
Dr Julian Parfitt, Principal Resource Analyst at Oakdene Hollins, took the stage first to give a critical review of "Global Food Waste across the Supply Chain".
Julian is a renowned expert on food waste statistics, having previously been involved with a number of international collaborative research proposals under EU’s FP7 programme, including: 'Quantification of food wastes across Europe' and 'Increased resource efficiency within fish value chains'.
As a leading statistical expert on UK’s waste arisings and composition, Julian has been responsible for many key national statistics, including:
• Monitoring progress towards WRAP’s Courtauld Commitment food waste reduction targets
• National household waste compositional estimates (Defra Waste Strategy 2007)
• Statistical advice to the Food Industry Sustainability Strategy Waste Champion’s Working Group
• Calculation of statutory household waste recycling targets in England.
